"Where Are YOU?"





I took these 2 pictures Winter 2010..There will be no Winter pictures from 2011 because I still have not replaced my broken camera. After years of walking around with a camera attached to my body I find I miss it terribly! Its a hard adjustment. I plan on replacing my broken camera in January 2012. Its winter water here in the islands, so this is a really good time to catch up on YEARS of things I have been letting go. You will KNOW the minute I get the next camera..LOL... I miss the Ocean...BUT my daily life is slowly taking on a more organized appearance...I best organize to the maximum..the minute I reattach the camera to my body, I will hit the water running...My animals will think I'm a stranger when I enter the front door, the beauty shop will think I died, my friends will scratch their heads and worry and I will start getting phone calls on my where abouts.... The funniest coming from my adult children,"MOM, WHERE ARE YOU?!"

Thank you Fire! This could be worse I could be in South Africa and NOT have a camera! ur wildlife shots are magnafantastic!

People don't even bother to ask where I am, they know I'm out to sea somewhere and will (hopefully) be back eventually. I did my first deep water swim of the winter yesterday and at one point wasn't sure I would make it in - but I did. I hope you get your camera soon.

The Splash

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. I hear the splash and my brain goes into overdrive, "LANI", my brain screams, "DON'T look back,just swim to shore".. i feel my legs getting weak.. "LAN...

Swims with Scissors

The weather here on Oahu has been yucky for the last week so I was surprised yesterday the 15th to see that the breezes had returned , the sky was blue and when i checked the surf report the waves on the North shore had calmed way down. I ventured down to the turtle rock i had been having so much fun at. I had seen the turtle below on my first day at the turtle rock. He had gotten snagged in fishing line and it was all over his neck, head and flippers. It so upset me I got out of the water, hurried into the bustling, little beach town of Haleiwa, to get the number to the turtle hot line here on the island. When i got home I threw a pair of first aid scissors in my beach bag and made a mental note that if I saw a turtle who was in trouble I would do the best i could to help.
