Tsunami Saturday

We had a Tsunami here in the Hawaiian islands on Saturday. The Ocean graciously touched us gently. No huge wall of water, just the ebb and flow of the tide......



.









After the civil defense cancelled the warning I headed west. The Ocean stood there magnificent. You could see her still churning , so I did not enter the water. Respecting the Ocean and her power is the foremost responsibility for all of us.






It was the sun that made me smile on this Tsunami Saturday, all day long the sun shone brightly, and then she set in the west as if she was throwing an all clear party!



I had to smile, ALL DAY long amidst the panic and chaos here in the island, the sun shone brilliantly! The sun after all had a Birdseye view of the tsunami and if the sun spoke its brilliance was a sign to us that all was well in the Hawaiian islands!






I am an island gal....

LOL, we were given a low grade warning... My girls live in Santa Monica area and the warning was totally off mark... 2-3 ft. waves...

Glad you are all safe. Must have been quiet a feeling to live through those hours.
Makes one wonder about the real size of humankind and of how much influence we are, should be.

I imagine the surfers were all lined up waiting for some big breakers coming through. I'm glad you had no disasterous waves lashing your coast. Great sunsets to end a day of "near drama".

I had a feeling all would be well in Hawaii and it was...We can be far away in distance but close in spirit and sometimes we can sense things about the island we love.

The Splash

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. I hear the splash and my brain goes into overdrive, "LANI", my brain screams, "DON'T look back,just swim to shore".. i feel my legs getting weak.. "LAN...

Swims with Scissors

The weather here on Oahu has been yucky for the last week so I was surprised yesterday the 15th to see that the breezes had returned , the sky was blue and when i checked the surf report the waves on the North shore had calmed way down. I ventured down to the turtle rock i had been having so much fun at. I had seen the turtle below on my first day at the turtle rock. He had gotten snagged in fishing line and it was all over his neck, head and flippers. It so upset me I got out of the water, hurried into the bustling, little beach town of Haleiwa, to get the number to the turtle hot line here on the island. When i got home I threw a pair of first aid scissors in my beach bag and made a mental note that if I saw a turtle who was in trouble I would do the best i could to help.
