Whose following whom?




We are having a wet, rainy summer. Its okay, we need the rain badly.






The fresh water flowing into the ocean on the North Shore usually happens only in our winter months.




But this summer because of more rainfall than usual, its been flowing into the Bay on a regular basis.



I have found the dolphins that swim on the North Shore do not like the fresh water that flows into the Bay and stay in deeper water because of it.














I was thrilled this morning when I saw that even though it was raining again the river at the Bay was NOT flowing into the ocean....






Sure enough... they came.... full of energy...









Joyous, noisy, having a splendid time... I always wonder if they know when its raining?


And I have a million dollar question i don't think will ever get answered. The question?








"Do the dolphins follow the rainbows, or do the rainbows follow the dolphins?"=0D

Nope, the rainbows definitely follow you.
Lucky you, playful dolphins are so much fun. I am so glad you got to swim with them. I only hope you didn't get wet from the rain.

Would it be too much to ask you to get a pic of a breaching dolphin right under a rainbow? Probably. LOL. You have the most stunning dolphin pics as usual. Wish I was there.

Thank you for the comments! Queen of the Rant.. i wait for the dolphins..LOL .. my friends call it mt QUEST=0D.. Swimming with dolphins from shore is a waiting game! Ive been doing it for 8 years so far ive not tired of waiting =0D

The Splash

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. I hear the splash and my brain goes into overdrive, "LANI", my brain screams, "DON'T look back,just swim to shore".. i feel my legs getting weak.. "LAN...

Swims with Scissors

The weather here on Oahu has been yucky for the last week so I was surprised yesterday the 15th to see that the breezes had returned , the sky was blue and when i checked the surf report the waves on the North shore had calmed way down. I ventured down to the turtle rock i had been having so much fun at. I had seen the turtle below on my first day at the turtle rock. He had gotten snagged in fishing line and it was all over his neck, head and flippers. It so upset me I got out of the water, hurried into the bustling, little beach town of Haleiwa, to get the number to the turtle hot line here on the island. When i got home I threw a pair of first aid scissors in my beach bag and made a mental note that if I saw a turtle who was in trouble I would do the best i could to help. I am not a professional and I know that good intentions are not always enough. You have to KNOW what you are doing. I could hurt a turtle more than help it so i needed to use my head.
