RESPECT



Shortly after i took this picture, a young woman swam up to this turtle grabbed a hold of it and tried to ride the turtle. I lifted my head out of the water and said. "WHY, did you do that?" she said, "DO WHAT?" "Ride the turtle". I said.



"OH", she said. "Its alright, its just a turtle". I said to her,"NO, its NOT alright, that little turtle had just 3 fins" I proceeded to tell her if she could not respect an injured animal, maybe she should not have children.

My daughter says i have become radical in my older years. I am afraid i have to agree. I don't want to be mean or ugly, BUT i want to stand up for what is right and what is wrong.

AS i see it this planet has moved forward amazingly quick. We as humans have all the gadgets, all the knowledge but we have forgotten to bring with us one important thing... RESPECT.

GF!, IF I WAS THERE I WOULD OF HAD YOUR BACK ON THIS...OMG,that poor turtle was probably scared to death.. I tell u humans I really wonder about their level of stupidity... guess that chick's level was way over the top.

I cannot agree more with you Leilani. Respect has become an outdated concept in modern day society... and I mean respect in all its forms.

I try (often not successfully) to show the people compassion because they usually don't know any better.
I tell them that sea turtles are endangered species and that it is against the law to harass them. That's usually enough to get them to show some respect.

Radical or not, we all need to stand up for what we believe in. Poor little turtle. Is it common for them to be missing fins? I feel so bad for all the sea turtles, because we have polluted our oceans, their home!

The Splash

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. Swims with Scissors

The weather here on Oahu has been yucky for the last week so I was surprised yesterday the 15th to see that the breezes had returned , the sky was blue and when i checked the surf report the waves on the North shore had calmed way down. I ventured down to the turtle rock i had been having so much fun at. I had seen the turtle below on my first day at the turtle rock. He had gotten snagged in fishing line and it was all over his neck, head and flippers. It so upset me I got out of the water, hurried into the bustling, little beach town of Haleiwa, to get the number to the turtle hot line here on the island. When i got home I threw a pair of first aid scissors in my beach bag and made a mental note that if I saw a turtle who was in trouble I would do the best i could to help.
