Fishhouse

The Lifeguards at Waimea Bay on the North Shore of Oahu are very special men and women.


I have watched them unselfishly enter raging waters to rescue those who have wondered too close to the ocean and have been washed out.

They single handly keep extreme surfers out of harms way during the winter months, risking their lives to save a fellow surfer.












So when i ran across this sign attached to a pile of underwater rocks i started to laugh! The Waimea Bay Lifeguards have a soft spot!











Please leave their fish house alone! LOLOL!

Baywatch made lifeguards' jobs look like something so glamorous, but often its a very thankless job of sitting out there in blazing heat or freezing cold winds. I am glad to see these guys have a great sense of humour and nature.

Why are the rocks there? Is it to protect the fish house, or is it for the fish to live and hide in? Oh island life I wish I had that life.

The Splash

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. Spring .. Let the Waiting Begin.

I was standing in the sun but soon those dark clouds were over me dumping rain so cold it sent scores of people flying up the beach for shelter. And so it is here in Hawaii, its called duck in and duck out...rain one minute, sun the next. Winter is not quite ready to leave us on land. BUT.... The Ocean tells a different story! The water is warmer than the rain, and she is clearing up. The snow storms under water are becoming lighter and as you can see the BLUE is incredible! My goal again this year as in the past 3 years is to get dolphin pictures right where this turtle is! Wish me luck, this is very shallow water. oh, but the pictures would be magnificent would they not? The dolphins will be here soon, passing the Bay and at times entering the Bay in joyous harmony...I am delighted .... Let the waiting begin!
