Spotlight Moment

Up early headed East again... kitty Machwas vet day... i missed the yellow raising of the sun BUT I did get there a little past 7am and this happened.. i waited for something to come jumping out of that perfect spotlight in the middle of the ocean .. the sun and the clouds playing with the ocean.






I stood there for quite awhile just mesmerized..








I turned to my left and took this.. the east coast of Oahu.. her rugged shore line so magnificent in the early morning light!.. I got in the car and headed west..










By the time i got to the west coast the sun was shining bright and clear.. it was a truly beautiful morning!









I have fallen deeply in love with the west side of the island..

Her sandy shorelines, blue blue water, and awesome mountains.








That one spotlight moment in the morning gave way to a whole weekend full of light and sun and dolphins..







i am a grateful island gal....

It's now close to four in the morning over here and I am grateful to say thank you for the first picture of yours, forcing me nearly to say "oh my god", which is very, very rare.

Yes, this is a spectacular place.
I had dinner on the beach last week and watched whales spouting out to sea, but saw nothing else. Then, just as the orange ball of the sun was dipping into the water, a whale breached right next to the sun. First breach I had seen that evening. Of course, my camera was not ready at that exact instant. Still, it reminds me of your spotlight moment.

Don thats so amazing because i stood real still just waiting .. of course if i didnt have the camera it would of happened! I figure the most AMAZING things are never caught on film!

The Splash

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. I hear the splash and my brain goes into overdrive, "LANI", my brain screams, "DON'T look back,just swim to shore".. i feel my legs getting weak.. "LAN...

Swims with Scissors

The weather here on Oahu has been yucky for the last week so I was surprised yesterday the 15th to see that the breezes had returned , the sky was blue and when i checked the surf report the waves on the North shore had calmed way down. I ventured down to the turtle rock i had been having so much fun at. I had seen the turtle below on my first day at the turtle rock. He had gotten snagged in fishing line and it was all over his neck, head and flippers. It so upset me I got out of the water, hurried into the bustling, little beach town of Haleiwa, to get the number to the turtle hot line here on the island. When i got home I threw a pair of first aid scissors in my beach bag and made a mental note that if I saw a turtle who was in trouble I would do the best i could to help. I am not a professional and I know that good intentions are not always enough. You have to KNOW what you are doing. I could hurt a turtle more than help it so i needed to use my head.
