The Rainbow and the Turtle

On Sunday the waves were back with a vengeance . I waited till the afternoon, got into my little beachmobile and headed North








It really doesn't matter the weather on the North Side of Oahu.




The beauty is always there.



















The sunset that evening in front of me and behind me.. just beautiful...































But it is what the sun did to this picture that is the most amazing.. my camera , the sun, sand and sea.. threw a rainbow over this turtle and the rock she was sitting by. that's not her shell, that's a rainbow!!! I am forever grateful for this magnificent planet!












I am an island gal....

Girl, u take such awesome photos... I love sea turtles....I even have a collection of turtles as well as a gold turtle charm that u-know-who gave me....love that rainbow! u should frame that... A special moment.

Lani..Just near your cover shot is a cave or really an indent where part of the cliff caved in. Have you ever crawled down to it ? Some interesting coral sometimes gets washed in....Boy, do I miss those times...especially when I look out at the snow and 15 degree chill factor..Ugh !

Dave i tried to get to that cave the day before.. the tide and current is still winter. Its one of the things i cant wait to do there!

Thank you A Human.. if you click on it to make it bigger then set it as background some are really nice. I had my camera on the wrong focus so the sunset ones may be fuzzy=0I My camera and I sometimes dont quite get along LOLOL

Hi Leilani, I love the new look of your blog, but where have all that lovely music gone to? I miss it.

Please also let me know how you did the Celine Dion/Andrea Boccelli recording with your photos or was it prerecorded somewhere else?

The Splash

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. I hear the splash and my brain goes into overdrive, "LANI", my brain screams, "DON'T look back,just swim to shore".. i feel my legs getting weak.. "LAN...

Swims with Scissors

The weather here on Oahu has been yucky for the last week so I was surprised yesterday the 15th to see that the breezes had returned , the sky was blue and when i checked the surf report the waves on the North shore had calmed way down. I ventured down to the turtle rock i had been having so much fun at. I had seen the turtle below on my first day at the turtle rock. He had gotten snagged in fishing line and it was all over his neck, head and flippers. It so upset me I got out of the water, hurried into the bustling, little beach town of Haleiwa, to get the number to the turtle hot line here on the island. When i got home I threw a pair of first aid scissors in my beach bag and made a mental note that if I saw a turtle who was in trouble I would do the best i could to help. I am not a professional and I know that good intentions are not always enough. You have to KNOW what you are doing. I could hurt a turtle more than help it so i needed to use my head.
