Sunday morning it was raining. In Hawaii, rain usually means beautiful rainbows and this Sunday morning was no exception!

The islands for some reason have the ability to rain while the sun is out and that creates some beautiful scenery.



The Waimea valley and its river look prehistoric when it rains.




Turn around and face the bay and this is what greets you...

Hop in the car and go down the road a mile or two..

..The rainbows cascade over the heads of the surfers who LOVE a colorful sky out there!


AND THEN top it off with a turtle who swims up to you and says,"HEY MAN u see the RAINBOW?"

MAGIC!!

That turtle made me chuckle.

When I was in Hawaii, we rented a jeep and got caught in the rain, and it was wonderful...! You are so lucky to live in the most beautiful place on earth. :-)

(Oh, by the way, caster sugar is just regular sugar, only more finely ground...)

Oh yah, the rainbows...I miss them as well. haven't seen one here yet and perhaps won't..it doesn't rain and sun shine at the same time.

Rainbows truely are magical things from God. I feel blessed each time I see one. And what about the turtle? How awesome is that.

Craqzy and Fire.. I like the saying,"No rain, NO rainbows. It gives me a promise o0f better when things get tough. I agree with you Fire! Dave somewhere there where you are there are rainbows . you just have to find them ! =0)

The Splash

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. I hear the splash and my brain goes into overdrive, "LANI", my brain screams, "DON'T look back,just swim to shore".. i feel my legs getting weak.. "LAN...

Swims with Scissors

The weather here on Oahu has been yucky for the last week so I was surprised yesterday the 15th to see that the breezes had returned , the sky was blue and when i checked the surf report the waves on the North shore had calmed way down. I ventured down to the turtle rock i had been having so much fun at. I had seen the turtle below on my first day at the turtle rock. He had gotten snagged in fishing line and it was all over his neck, head and flippers. It so upset me I got out of the water, hurried into the bustling, little beach town of Haleiwa, to get the number to the turtle hot line here on the island. When i got home I threw a pair of first aid scissors in my beach bag and made a mental note that if I saw a turtle who was in trouble I would do the best i could to help. I am not a professional and I know that good intentions are not always enough. You have to KNOW what you are doing. I could hurt a turtle more than help it so i needed to use my head.
