Ski or Surf?



It snowned on the Big Island of Hawaii last night. So the burning question for some today was, "SHOULD i surf or should i ski?"



The picture was part of a news story here in the islands.


It has been a chilly day all day... 75, 76 degrees or so....LOLOL

So much snow on the mountains so close to the sea. We get some snow in SOuth Africa, but the closest to me is usually a couple of hours away and melts quickly. Which means that I have never see proper snow.

Wow, that's the second time isn't it? didn't it snow earlier in the year? I was talking to my bf who lives on Oahu and he didn't mention any snow on the Big Island...

Fire, since im oahu ive never seen it myself! LOL by the time i took a plane to the big island it would of melted! LOLOL! =)

Chrissy, im not sure if this is the first or not... news says it melted quickly. My friend who mo9nitors the volcano never said a word on his blog either. One day i want to see it. It must be beautiful!

The Splash

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. I hear the splash and my brain goes into overdrive, "LANI", my brain screams, "DON'T look back,just swim to shore".. i feel my legs getting weak.. "LAN...

Swims with Scissors

The weather here on Oahu has been yucky for the last week so I was surprised yesterday the 15th to see that the breezes had returned , the sky was blue and when i checked the surf report the waves on the North shore had calmed way down. I ventured down to the turtle rock i had been having so much fun at. I had seen the turtle below on my first day at the turtle rock. He had gotten snagged in fishing line and it was all over his neck, head and flippers. It so upset me I got out of the water, hurried into the bustling, little beach town of Haleiwa, to get the number to the turtle hot line here on the island. When i got home I threw a pair of first aid scissors in my beach bag and made a mental note that if I saw a turtle who was in trouble I would do the best i could to help.
