Beautiful Sunday



Rainbows out in full force on the North Shore this morning!


The water was really calm today. It took awhile for the sun to come out in full force and I got cold swimming. Once I get cold it is really hard to warm back up even in the sun. The Ocean cold goes straight to the bone but...


..Those rainbows gave way to a BEAUTIFUL Sunday!

Cold or Warm... I am an island gal... =0)

Are those raindrops on the lens int he last photo? I visited your island via Google Earth last night. It is so intersting visiting Turtle Bay and the North Shore. I saw the Hilton hotel and the golg course up there. GE is such a fun program and I love sneaking in your backdoor when you are not looking.

Thank you Fire =0) Don its funny cuz explaining cold to snowbound people makes them laugh, but the ocean really can pack a cold whallop!

A Human =0) thats salt water on my camera! I get out of the water and forget to shake the water off. LOL .. I usually dont carry a towel, just me, my snorkel, googles, camera and swimsuit =0)

The Splash

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. I hear the splash and my brain goes into overdrive, "LANI", my brain screams, "DON'T look back,just swim to shore".. i feel my legs getting weak.. "LAN...

Swims with Scissors

The weather here on Oahu has been yucky for the last week so I was surprised yesterday the 15th to see that the breezes had returned , the sky was blue and when i checked the surf report the waves on the North shore had calmed way down. I ventured down to the turtle rock i had been having so much fun at. I had seen the turtle below on my first day at the turtle rock. He had gotten snagged in fishing line and it was all over his neck, head and flippers. It so upset me I got out of the water, hurried into the bustling, little beach town of Haleiwa, to get the number to the turtle hot line here on the island. When i got home I threw a pair of first aid scissors in my beach bag and made a mental note that if I saw a turtle who was in trouble I would do the best i could to help. I am not a professional and I know that good intentions are not always enough. You have to KNOW what you are doing. I could hurt a turtle more than help it so i needed to use my head.
