Stole my Heart

February and March...the rainy season in Hawaii....the islands turn completely green. With this in mind, I visited a Botanical Garden near where i live in the town of Wahiawa, Oahu  and it was while i was there, walking ad mist the green green of our island, that I fell in love , with a TREE!!



I actually put my ear to this tree, I fully expected to hear a beating heart for this tree had stolen my heart!! Magnificent Tall Tall Eucalyptus Tree, ages old, full of strength....

We are in the midst of a hot and dry summer. I don't mind it being warm but we seriously need rain.

When I visit places I like to touch things. Rocks and stones in historic places and trees and rocks in natural places. It allows the energy of the history and nature flow through me.

What is it about trees? I feel the same way. I even love the twisted, rough kiawe trees.

The Splash

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. I hear the splash and my brain goes into overdrive, "LANI", my brain screams, "DON'T look back,just swim to shore".. i feel my legs getting weak.. "LAN...

Swims with Scissors

The weather here on Oahu has been yucky for the last week so I was surprised yesterday the 15th to see that the breezes had returned , the sky was blue and when i checked the surf report the waves on the North shore had calmed way down. I ventured down to the turtle rock i had been having so much fun at. I had seen the turtle below on my first day at the turtle rock. He had gotten snagged in fishing line and it was all over his neck, head and flippers. It so upset me I got out of the water, hurried into the bustling, little beach town of Haleiwa, to get the number to the turtle hot line here on the island. When i got home I threw a pair of first aid scissors in my beach bag and made a mental note that if I saw a turtle who was in trouble I would do the best i could to help.
