"Looking Back"

I sat in my favorite little tidal pool....taking pictures of the shoreline in front of me. One of my favorite views this little pool is only here in the winter and a few weeks of summer. I know the time i have in this space is limited...and then this view i love so much will change until next winter. I just happened to turn around...to look behind me. I was NOT alone anymore.... Mother Nature, one of the only places "LOOKING BACK" can be just stunning!!

How lovely to spent some alone time like this and have a turtle visit you.

When you say its only there in winter, does it mean that in summer the sea doesn't puch into it because its calmer?

Yes Fire the tides become lower the wind blows the sand from down the beach into the little pool.... it fills with sand and sits there till Dec January when the big waves clear out the sand =)

So true. Often the best photographs are in the opposite direction. Thank you for the reminder and the beautiful turtle photo.

The Splash

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. I hear the splash and my brain goes into overdrive, "LANI", my brain screams, "DON'T look back,just swim to shore".. i feel my legs getting weak.. "LAN...

Swims with Scissors

The weather here on Oahu has been yucky for the last week so I was surprised yesterday the 15th to see that the breezes had returned , the sky was blue and when i checked the surf report the waves on the North shore had calmed way down. I ventured down to the turtle rock i had been having so much fun at. I had seen the turtle below on my first day at the turtle rock. He had gotten snagged in fishing line and it was all over his neck, head and flippers. It so upset me I got out of the water, hurried into the bustling, little beach town of Haleiwa, to get the number to the turtle hot line here on the island. When i got home I threw a pair of first aid scissors in my beach bag and made a mental note that if I saw a turtle who was in trouble I would do the best i could to help.
