EPIC

I've heard the surfers use the word "epic " to describe the unusual and occasional winter like surf that rolls into the North Shore during summer.. And that's exactly what the last 2 days have been... "epic". Larger than normal surf in the warmer summer waters of the North Shore have had the surfers running for their boards and the waves... For me the epic came when this week, all of a sudden, a turtle I haven't seen in quite a while suddenly shows up... He takes such beautiful pictures I was just delighted to see him... Two completely different "epics" coming from one big beautiful massive "Epic" Ocean!! I am an island gal.......

Just shows you that epic doesn't have to be something big and adventurous. I would call such an encounter epic as well.

Wonderful turtle photo. I haven't been too crazy about all the surf because the water's too murky for safe swimming. I am really happy to see you back in the water where you belong

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. Spring .. Let the Waiting Begin.

I was standing in the sun but soon those dark clouds were over me dumping rain so cold it sent scores of people flying up the beach for shelter. And so it is here in Hawaii, its called duck in and duck out...rain one minute, sun the next. Winter is not quite ready to leave us on land. BUT.... The Ocean tells a different story! The water is warmer than the rain, and she is clearing up. The snow storms under water are becoming lighter and as you can see the BLUE is incredible! My goal again this year as in the past 3 years is to get dolphin pictures right where this turtle is! Wish me luck, this is very shallow water. oh, but the pictures would be magnificent would they not? The dolphins will be here soon, passing the Bay and at times entering the Bay in joyous harmony...I am delighted .... Let the waiting begin!
