Going Back...



I still have not replaced my camera so I take you back..... into the Blue....
I love the seasons...

....the huge waves of winter, which is going on right now, keep the dolphins away from
the shoreline....

When the water calms and the whales leave our the islands deep
purple waters, when the dolphins feel summer approaching, their curiosity gets the best of them and they head for the shallow water... " Lets see," u can imagine them saying, " Lets go see shallow water ,we haven't been there for months!"

It is at this time that being in the water is so incredible... I once had them swim with me to within 10 Feet of the shore.... people on the beach flying out of the water.. all they saw were dorsal fins..... I do miss those years,the dolphins and I alone out there, the years BEFORE people understood those dorsals were NOT sharks but dolphins....

BUT the MORE people see and understand the better for our Ocean. There are many people in the water now, who like myself wait for the dolphins, people who are willing, dolphin OR shark to share the incredible joy and beauty of this planet and her amazing Oceans....









In another Month I will hit the water again.... I wait like the dolphins for the calm summer waters of the islands....

We're heading out on holiday on Saturday so I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I have done forward posts for both my blogs so they will still come up on your feeds every day, I just won't be commenting as I'm not taking the laptop along.

We swim even in the winter in Hawaii - water permitting. It is just too alluring, plus after Lake Tahoe the water is positively warm - even in winter. :-)

The Splash

The water in the Bay has calmed down enough for me to swim into the big cave at the bay. I enter the crystal clear water of a little bay that's sits within the Big bay and made my way toward the cave. The tides are still high, the ocean not quite ready for the low low tides of summer. I enter the big cave that is still partially filled with water. The tide is pushing me in and out of the cool cave like a ride at the carnival! In and out... in and out of the cave, all the while I'm trying like crazy to get a picture from the inside of the cave looking out. It was on my 20Th trip with the tide back into the cave that I heard the splash behind me. Now, for me a splash behind me causes my heart to immediately start racing. Why? well when sharks feed they have a certain tail movement that causes a splash. I hear the splash and my brain goes into overdrive, "LANI", my brain screams, "DON'T look back,just swim to shore".. i feel my legs getting weak.. "LAN...

Swims with Scissors

The weather here on Oahu has been yucky for the last week so I was surprised yesterday the 15th to see that the breezes had returned , the sky was blue and when i checked the surf report the waves on the North shore had calmed way down. I ventured down to the turtle rock i had been having so much fun at. I had seen the turtle below on my first day at the turtle rock. He had gotten snagged in fishing line and it was all over his neck, head and flippers. It so upset me I got out of the water, hurried into the bustling, little beach town of Haleiwa, to get the number to the turtle hot line here on the island. When i got home I threw a pair of first aid scissors in my beach bag and made a mental note that if I saw a turtle who was in trouble I would do the best i could to help. I am not a professional and I know that good intentions are not always enough. You have to KNOW what you are doing. I could hurt a turtle more than help it so i needed to use my head.
